Are you experiencing frequent conflict with your partner and can’t seem to find a way to communicate that works, fear that you are stuck in this rut?

Are you feeling emotionally disengaged in your relationship and can’t seem to get your closeness back?

Are you a college student who is having a hard time with anxiety or depression?

Are you or someone you know dealing with bipolar disorder?

For over twenty years I have genuinely enjoyed understanding and supporting clients in a variety of settings including high schools, universities, older adults and hospice patients and their families. For the last ten years I have worked with active duty military and their families in the US and abroad.

I enjoy quickly developing rapport with my clients, joining them in problem solving, and helping them create more peace in their lives. I am curious about whatever the client brings to me and am able to encourage them to tell more of their story. Lately I have begun to offer eco-therapy, processing with the brain, while the body is in motion. Some feel it is less stressful than sitting in an office and more energetic and efficient.

I work with the following issues:

  • Couples
  • Issues relating to the military (PTDS, couples issues, family counseling)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Grief and loss
  • Adjustment issues of adolescents and college students

I graduated with a Master’s of Social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1997 and received my Bachelor’s degree from the University of Montevallo, in Alabama.

I look forward to helping you on the road to feeling good again. If you have specific questions about my background or approach, email me at Deb@CharlestonCounseling.org.
