Do you want to gain insight into and resolve a difficult life struggle?

My approach is to understand you deeply and individualize our work by finding what is most effective for you.

I have assisted clients with a broad spectrum of issues including anxiety and panic, depression, self esteem struggles, smoking cessation, alleviating compulsions, workplace stress, relationship problems, life-transition difficulties, medical trauma, childhood and contemporary trauma, and sexual abuse. My clients have described me as very skilled, approachable and warm.

I am also highly certified in a technique called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which helps trauma survivors reduce or eliminate their PTSD. I have used this approach successfully with hundreds of clients and look forward to talking more about how I can help you find greater peace and balance.

For clients who wish to use their health insurance I am in-network with the following plans:

  • Blue Cross/Blue Shield (all plans)
  • Tricare
  • Medicaid (all plans)

Here is what previous clients had to say about our work together

“If you are suffering and feel like you have tried everything possible to alleviate it, please….talk with Parke.

When I first began seeing him, severe anxiety and depression were dominating every single aspect of my life. We used a combination of EMDR and talk therapy and it has helped immensely. I have learned coping skills from him that will last a very long time.

Before I started therapy I felt like a hopeless cause. I thought I was truly beyond help, as I had been to several therapists and tried different medications but felt like I was not able to help myself at all. Parke and I worked together for 7 months and although it was not easy it was very worth it.

Parke is sincere, empathetic and kind. He worked very hard to establish my trust; that’s the kind of therapist he is. He will do the work with you and be there with you in the struggle. I am forever grateful for my work with him.” – Rachel B., Charleston

“I started meeting with Parke Smith after I endured a traumatic injury. After countless pain medications and lack of sleep, I was convinced that nothing could help me through the depression and PTSD that resulted from my injury. A normal life seemed out of reach. After a couple of sessions, Parke was able to help me redirect my thoughts towards a more positive light, and I believed that overcoming obstacles was actually possible. In a matter of months, I no longer suffered from trauma-induced mental pain. This allowed me to focus all of my attention toward getting physically stronger and healthier.

Parke was very discerning in developing the right techniques for my specific issues. He always kept an open mind and was not afraid to dive deeper and learn more about what I was going through. The more I met with Parke, the more sensitive he was to detecting feelings and thoughts that were disrupting my mental process, although I was unaware of them myself. If it were not for Parke, this injury would define every aspect of my life. I am grateful for all of his time that he spent with me.” – Derrick H., Charleston
